The name of Truganina’s newest school has been revealed as it prepares to open its doors next year.

Luba Grigorovitch today announced Mindalk Primary School has been chosen for Tarneit Plains Primary School following community feedback and consultation with Traditional Owner groups.

Mindalk Primary School is one of 19 schools set to open in Term 1, 2026.

In 2023, it was announced that new schools would be given First Nations language names to help support self-determination, language and culture across the state.

The new names were chosen following a two-week consultation process. The Victorian School Building Authority received more than 2,300 submissions from Victorians.

These 19 new schools will deliver on the Allan Labor Government’s election commitment to open 100 new schools by 2026, ensuring every student can access a great school closer to home.

The Labor Government has invested $18.5 billion over the past 11 years to build 123 new schools and deliver more than 2,300 school upgrades − supporting more than 30,000 jobs in construction and associated industries.

Victoria has the largest school building program in the country and continues to build for the future.

The Victorian Budget 2025/26 invests a further $1.5 billion to build, expand, upgrade and maintain even more schools across our growing state. This includes two new schools in 2027 and new facilities, classrooms and sports ovals at recently opened schools.
